The Company Behind Me: Why Who Stands Behind Your Mortgage Agent Matters
October 21, 2026 | Posted by: Daryl Johnson
When you choose a mortgage agent, you are choosing a person. You are also choosing everything standing behind that person, and most people never think to ask about it until something goes sideways.
Here is the company behind me, on the record.
A family team of three licensed professionals
The Barrys Team is not a one-person operation. Barry Johnson is our team lead and a licensed Mortgage Broker. Brian Johnson is a Licensed Mortgage Agent Level 1 and a licensed investment advisor, which gives every client of the team an investment perspective most mortgage shops cannot offer. I am a Licensed Mortgage Agent Level 2.
Two brothers and a son, one goal: the right mortgage for your situation.
What that means for you in practice: if I am away, your file does not wait in one person's inbox. There are two other licensed professionals who know the team, the lenders, and the process, and a broker reviewing the work. Your closing date does not depend on one person's calendar.
A national network behind the rate
I am licensed under Mortgage Architects, one of the three wings of the DLCG (Dominion Lending Centres Group), one of the largest mortgage networks in Canada. The group funded $84.5 billion in mortgages in 2025.
That scale is not a trivia point. It is why I can put 57 lenders in front of a client instead of one bank's shelf of products. It is why there is a compliance department checking the file, a head office behind the brokerage, and lender relationships that a standalone operator simply does not have.
Local, licensed, and accountable
The team is based in Meaford and serves families across Grey Bruce and Simcoe. We are licensed through FSRA under Mortgage Architects, Brokerage #12728, and those numbers are on everything we publish, from social posts to print packages. If you ever want to check a licence before you hand someone your financial life, ours are easy to find.
Why it matters at closing and at renewal
A mortgage is a five-year relationship with a check-in problem: most people hear from their lender once, when the renewal letter arrives. A team with a real office, a broker overseeing files, and a national network behind it is built to still be there for that conversation, and for the questions in between.
A person gives you a plan. A company makes sure it closes, and that it still fits years later.
